4 Things to Know About Dating with Invisalign

Are you presently undergoing Invisalign treatment to improve the look of your beam? These nearly invisible plastic aligners are a great way to discreetly correct gaps, bite problems, and alignment issues without the need for bulky brackets or wires. If you are currently part of the dating world, things may look a little different while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Continue reading to learn four things that you should know when dating with Invisalign.

#1: Invisalign Gives You a Confidence Boost

Having crooked or misaligned teeth can make you feel self-conscious about your smile, which can make it harder to put yourself out there. Invisalign works in the same way as traditional braces by applying gentle but constant pressure to the teeth over several months or years. This will move them into a more ideal position to give you a gorgeous, uniform grin you’ll be excited to show off on your date.

#2: Invisalign May Alter Your Speech

Since your mouth hasn’t had a chance to get used to wearing your aligners yet, you may experience a slight lisp or speech impediment at first. This usually goes away once you’ve gotten used to your trays. There are some ways to speed up this process, such as:

  • Have verbal conversations with friends, family, and coworkers
  • Repeat difficult-to-pronounce words
  • Practice reading out loud

#3: Invisalign Lets You Eat Without Worry

There are a variety of foods that need to be avoided with traditional braces, including popcorn, nuts, caramel, chewy candy, pizza crust, and corn on the cob. This is because they can get stuck in the braces and damage them. Since Invisalign is removable, you can eat almost anything without worry.

Even so, you may want to be wary of foods and drinks that may stain your aligners, such as coffee, tea, and red wine. You can also drink a glass of water after consuming these beverages to lessen your risk of staining your trays.

#4: Invisalign Increases Your Risk of Bad Breath

Halitosis, also called bad breath, is a common complaint among those who wear clear aligners. Fortunately, this is generally avoidable as long as you take good care of your trays. Clean them at least once daily and soak them in a solution for clear aligners, dentures, or retainers to get rid of excess bacteria. These steps will help prevent bad breath and keep your trays clean.

Additionally, brush and floss after each meal. This will prevent aligner staining, cavities, and help your breath continue to smell great all day long.
